Weekly Round-Up: The One Where the Round-Up is Late and Donkey Kong Returns

Sorry, GT readers. I’d like to tell you the Round-Up is late because the GT staff was flown to Bungie to get an exclusive look at their newest video game, but that would be a flat-out lie. The truth is I got a little sidetracked reviewing some indie games this weekend and slept way too much. So here is the Round-Up. It’s late, but still oh so great.

Team Yakuza announces Binary Domain.

The Truth:

Lara Croft has been making a sort of comeback as of late, and while I do love me some tomb raiding, I’m not so sure about this origin story.

“Forget everything you knew about Tomb Raider,” Darrell Gallagher, head of studio at Crystal Dynamics, said. “This is an origins story that creates Lara Croft and takes her on a character defining journey like no other.”

Hmm…Please don’t ruin this Lara Croft rebirth, Crystal Dynamics.

Neal Patrick Harris will host the Video Game Awards. I haven’t watched the show in years (it’s usually very, very bad) but I may give it another shot.

Games for the Holidays keeps up Microsoft’s recent tradition of highlighting Xbox Live Arcade games with each season. We have previews for A World of Keflings and Raskulls.

To be perfectly honest, I didn’t know what OnLive was before I wrote this Round-Up. It seems to be pretty much like Netflix. Read the article for pricing information and what games you can expect.

Looks like Kinect is selling well.

Lookin’ for free iOS games? Here’s a boat load of ’em.

The Reviews:

Arcania: Gothic 4 isn’t going to dethrone any fantasy RPGs as the best the genre has to offer, but the European developed RPG does do enough to keep people interested—mainly with the beautiful environments and loot system. As a lover of mediocre European RPGs (Divinity 2, baby!) I’ll definitely be buying this once the Christmas rush is done and over with.

Donkey Kong Country Returns is a perfectly-crafted game for the Wii except for one thing: when Nintendo said it was on like Donkey Kong, they meant it. This game is damn hard, but totally rewarding. If you haven’t bought what is one of the best Wii games to date, then get to a store now and bring that monkey home.

I don’t understand PC spec talk, but apparently this gaming laptop rocks, and Batman would use it. Yes, Batman.

Sonic Colors DS gives gamers another great Sonic game. I’m sure hell must have frozen over, eh?

Well GT, that’s the Round-Up this week. Be sure to tune in Friday for our regularly scheduled Round-Up of all the gaming news and reviews you could ever hope for!
