Hydrothunder: Hurricane Review
Hydro Thunder is every bit worth its 1500(now 1200) MS point price tag.
There are a lot of things that you will notice about Hydro Thunder Hurricane right away. The visuals are a-m-a-z-i-n-g! For an Xbox Arcade title, Vector Unit did a great job with designing these levels and giving fans looking for a sequel a satisfying experience.
There are so many things that were done right for this title. The local link co-op is great for anyone getting back to the PS1 or Dreamcast nostalgia. If you were an arcade fan of Hydro Thunder, not to worry, Damn The Torpedo’s will make you feel at ease when hitting the jet juice. Whether its ganging up locally or over Xbox LIVE, there is enough multiplayer to go around. 4-player can easily turn into 8-player over Xbox LIVE. Not to mention online leaderboards make for a great way to display your all important track times. Unlockable boat skins, avatar items, or gamer icon add in some great value. Coming in 1st every now and then does have its moments commendations as well.
The controls very easy going and they do offer some great abilities. Using the boost lets you leave your opponent in your whipping wake trails, but in mid air with the help of your LS, you can actually realign your boat for landing. This makes those passes for 2nd, moving into 1st, a strategic yet-over the top move.
Skimming the wake trails is not so bad, when you get right into the zone and complete some “drafting,” it can deliver some extra speed to your moves. Tapping the break then making a quick boost allows for strategic turning. Utilizing the brake with B helps maneuver those split second decisions to go right up at the fork in the cave or giant falling pillars of concrete. There are plenty of hidden icons as well as over the explosive obstacles that will test your rocket boat driving abilities. I wonder what license class rocket boats are in?
There are only a few minor thins that you can really say about Hyrdro Thunder Hurricane. In online multiplayer, it does get a little chaotic out of the gate. It is kind of confusing as to where you are going with a million white gamertags in front of you. Get out of my way ZOMBIES8MYBONG, I can’t see where I’m going!
Hydrothunder:Hurricane is a great addition to the Xbox LIVE arcade and to the Hydrothunder library.
