The NPD Group Axes Hardware, Software Numbers from Monthly Reports
The NPD Group, a market research company, was the one source providing video game hardware and software sales data for gaming enthusiasts and rabid fanboys looking for fuel to fight their ongoing console war debates.
However, the company announced that it will no longer provide monthly reports detailing sales to the media. A top 10 list revealing the best-selling games in retail stores will be provided, but details on specific figures will be up to software publishers.
On the hardware side of things, NPD will be releasing an overall dollar-sales figure.
A statement released today by the NPD group explained the change was due to gaming heading towards digital distribution.
The next NPD report, expected on Thursday, October 14, will be the last.
