TGS: SEGA Announces Phantasy Star Online 2

Ah yes, PSO. I remember how you had destroyed many years of my life. But those were good times, great times.

Earlier at the Tokyo Game Show, SEGA announced the existence of Phantasy Star Online 2 for Windows PC. Will SEGA answer the prayers of thousands of PSO fans and breathe new life into the franchise with this much anticipated title? Or is it just going to be another Phantasy Star Universe? Only Time will tell.

Below is the official website and on it includes a video which is one part video timeline of the franchise and one part announcement trailer. Although practically nothing is known about the game thus far (and the trailer reveals zero), you can be that if it’s SEGA, I will fight a sumo wrestler to get more info for it.

The game is slated to release sometime next year in Japan. A Western release date is still unknown.

As a side note, some people will no doubt frown at SEGA’s latest Phantasy title recalling the absolute bad-ness of PSU. However, the recent Phantasy Star Portable titles for PSP have been relatively decent. So throwing this one out as lost right now may be a bit premature. We have a long time to speculate, however. Hopefully SEGA still has that magic spark that made the original such an addictive treasure.
