SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Fireteam Bravo 3 Review
Release Date: February 16, 2010
Developer: Slant Six Games
Platform: PlayStation Portable (PSP)
For those who were going through SOCOM withdraw, comes a new title for PSP. SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Fireteam Bravo 3 throws you in the middle of the action, while still keeping that tactical feel that fans have come to know and love.
As a US Navy SEAL squad leader, Wraith, you must lead a team of three other men into battle. However, there is no fancy technology to accompany you on this black-ops mission. You and your team must hunt down a U.S. operative and deal with a Weapons of Mass Destruction threat. All in days work? Well, if you are among these elite group of men, it is.
The tactical control is refreshingly simple and with AI that ACTUALLY helps you, it takes the frustrating aspect out of single player and with the ability to revive them easily, it almost makes you wonder if the AI might be too good. With a simple press of Circle, you can hold your team’s position or have them toss flash bangs and dispose of the enemies ahead. With you calling the shots, SOCOM Fireteam Bravo 3 leaves no question to whose orders your team is following.
Controlling your character doesn’t require a steep learning curve. As with a majority of Playstation associated titles movement is done via the analog stick. If you are familiar with the previous PSP title, it is a fluid transition, but if they initially confuse you, you have plenty of time to work through them in the training mode at the start of SOCOM: Fireteam Bravo 3.
While single player is very well done, the multi-player is the strong selling point of SOCOM: Fireteam Bravo 3. You and three of your friends can team up and wage war in maps that allow up to 16 player multi-play. You can also take this same group and tackle the campaign missions, if doing them the solo route isn’t quite working for you. Playing online will allow you to rack up ribbons and medals, then work your way up the leaderboard. As you complete these missions you will be rewarded with weapons, add-ons, and costume parts.
SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Fireteam Bravo 3 is an amazing title for the PSP platform. The graphics are excellent and the addition of the extensive multiplayer, make it one of the top shooters available on the PSP. It has been a few years since a new SOCOM title for the platform was available, but it is very apparent that the folks at Slant Six put an extreme amount of time and effort makingSOCOM: Fireteam Bravo 3 an excellent addition to the franchise. SOCOM: Fireteam Bravo 3 is available February 16th for PSP.
