If you’ve had a chance to play through Half-Life 2 at any point, you’d probably realize that making a movie about Gordon Freeman would be next to impossible. Not only have you already been there and done that, but the chances of it working right without House’s Hugh Laurie would feel a bit wrong.
With that in mind, it’s a good thing that Purchase Brothers didn’t do a short film on Gordan Freeman, but it is based in the Half-Life 2 world.
Have a look:

Here’s a description from the film’s YouTube page:
The Escape From City 17 short film series is an adaptation based on the Half Life computer game saga by Valve Corporation. Originally envisioned as a project to test out numerous post production techniques, as well as a spec commercial, it ballooned into a multi part series. Filmed guerilla style with no money, no time, no crew, no script, the first two episodes were made from beginning to end on a budget of $500.
If that only cost $500, then I’m wondering how much work was done completely free, because that has to be some of the best fan work I’ve ever seen.
Here’s hoping they make enough of these to release a full-fledged film. I can’t wait to see more!
