PS3 Trophy Support Mandatory Starting January 2009

If you’ve got a PS3 and enjoy having those awesome Trophies, but hate the guessing game of whether the games you want support them, then today’s your lucky day!

Earlier this week VideoGamer.com received a tip from an anonymous source within the UK video game industry that, from January 2009 onwards, all newly released PS3 titles will be required to support the PS3 Trophy system.

Today a Sony Computer Entertainment Europe spokesperson confirmed that this information is accurate, stating: “Yes from Jan 09 all games must have trophies.”

Awesome. That means after January, there’s no more worrying whether or not your new games will have trophies. No more late-to-the-party patches that make you start the game from scratch to get credit. And most importantly, a standard system that everyone has to abide to.

Trophies will be come more like Achievements; even though they have a two year gap of games that don’t have Trophy support…

Any way it goes, it’s a great day for PS3 owners.
