Single-player aside must of your time is going to be spent with the multiplayer whether it’s the 8-player co-op or the 60-player competitive. Both multiplayer aspects are design extremely well and smart too. You can play split-screen with a friend for multiplayer.
The Competitive forms you into squads keeping the battlefield from becoming to chaotic. It has all the stuff you expect to see in competitive like team deathmatch and something like capture the flag but my favorite new mode is the Skirmish mode. Each squad is given objectives to complete such as capturing or defending a beacon and kill or protect the target. You will always coming across a rival squad and playing as a team is the only way sometimes that you will complete the objective.
In competitive you can use special abilities called berserks when you fill up the meter by simply shooting and killing people. Things like Ironheart reduce damage or you can use something like Prototype ammo to increase damage you dish out. More can be earned by collecting enough experience during play and each shot you land nets you experience points.

Talking about teamwork the 8-player co-op really shines. There are three classes to choose from which are the Medic, Solider and Spec Ops. Trust me running off on your own and not playing as a team means instant death. Insomniac has really outdone themselves by forcing you to work together to stop the massive Chimeran onslaught that comes your way. They even have mini-bosses like the Rocket launching Titans and Stalkers which will always keep you on your toes and above else working with the team to survive. The difficulty also scales to how many people you have in your squad.
Insomniac created a very addicting leveling up system which grants new berserks, weapons and equipment to purchase to further max out your character. To purchase equipment you need Gray tech which you get by defeating certain enemies in co-op.
I would like to mention concerning the multiplayer aspects is that Insomniac were having trouble with players who were playing split-screen. These players would have trouble connecting and staying in games once connected, this was a problem I had myself but as of now that should be fixed. There are some other issues and you can go to www.myresistance.net for the full list.
These things aside I can’t recommend Resistance 2 enough. If you have a PS3 this is a must buy title and like usually Insomniac delivers. Everything about the game is bigger and you would be missing out on a action packed title if you don’t get this game.
