Confirmed: Ensemble To Close After Halo Wars
Microsoft has confirmed the rumor, Ensemble Studios will in fact close after the completion of Halo Wars for the Xbox 360.
Here is the official statement:
The team at Ensemble has made invaluable contributions to the games industry with their Age of Empires and Age of Mythology games and with the highly anticipated release of Halo Wars,” the publisher said in a statement. “This decision does not reflect at all on Ensemble’s talent or the quality of Halo Wars–in fact, many people who have had a chance to test drive Halo Wars agree that it is on track to being a fantastic game.“
While the Ensemble name will be no more the “leadership team” will form a new studio and have already entered a deal to continue to work on Halo Wars post-launch. Also the newly formed studio will “work on other projects with Microsoft Game Studios.”
The reason for the closure is stated below:
This was a fiscally rooted decision that keeps MGS on its growth path. While the decision to dissolve Ensemble was not an easy one, Microsoft is working to place as many Ensemble employees who do not move to the newly formed studio into open positions within Microsoft as possible.“
While it sucks to see a studio like Ensemble go hopefully everyone can transition to their new studio and have just as much success when they under the Ensemble label. Its also good news that Halo Wars won’t suffer because of this and that it will still be in good hands.
Good luck to everyone at Ensemble and we hope for your continued success under your new studio when it opens.
