E3 2008: Nintendo Press Conference
Nintendo started off their press conference early this morning and we have all the details right here.
First they debuted Shaun White’s Snowboarding for the Wii which uses the balance board that comes packed with Wii Fit. I have to admit this game looks like a lot of fun. Expect this game by the end of the year.
Animal Crossing: City Folks was announced today for the Wii. You can do all the things from past games like customizing your room and shaping your town. This time Animal Crossing will use the new Wii Speak, a community microphone where you can talk to all the people your playing with. You can also travel to other peoples town and send picture messages to the Wii message board. Animal Crossing should be out later this year.
After that they showed off a couple videos for Star Wars: The Clone Wars for the Wii, Rayman Raving Rabbids: TV Party which will use the balance board and Call of Duty World at War on the Wii.
Guitar Hero On Tour Decades was announced for the DS. This version of the game will allow song sharing with other versions of the game.
Spore Creatures was announced for the DS and as expected you can share creatures with friends. This was followed by a new Pokemon Ranger game for the DS which should be out this year.
The most exciting DS news is that Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars which will be a new story in modern day Liberty City should be out this winter.
Nintendo also talked about ideas in discussion about using the DS for airport info, finding restaurants, using it a baseball game for trivia with fans and live score update and lastly a item which should be out this year which is a recipe guide for when your cooking at home.
Following the news we broke yesterday about Wii MotionPlus they debuted the game which will use it called Wii Sports Resort. Just like the original this will have all new mini-games like dog catching, jet skiing and my personal favorite sword fighting. That looked awesome.
To close the show they revealed Wii Music with a great drum solo to start it off. The drums will use both the Wii remote and balance board for foot pedals. The game is designed to be simple to play and will have modes like training lessons and note matching. You can play up to 4 people or by yourself in all four positions and create music videos to share with your friends. There will be over 50 instruments to play. In case if you were wondering the Orchestra mode is there.
I think Nintendo had a good press conference and they certainly played to their strength which is the casual audience. I think hardcore fans aren’t really going to be pleased because there wasn’t really anything for them.
Still I’m excited to get my hands on Wii Play and some sword dueling action in Wii Sports Resort.
Look forward to our coverage of Sony’s press conference a little later today.
