Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Dated and Priced
April 17th is the day. Racing fans the world over will have their time to shine, as Gran Turismo 5 Prologue will be released as a download over the PlayStation Network for the price of $40.
Prologue will include over 60 vehicles and includes online multiplayer for up to 16 racers and the ‘last-gen’ rumble! On top of that addition, the title will launch with Gran Turismo TV – an online channel based through PlayStation Network which includes motor enthusiast content in both standard and high-def.
One of the coolest features to me is the complete in-dash view. It includes your driver, a detailed view of the interior of the vehicle, and working gauges. Yes, you heard that right – working gauges in the cockpit view as well as your driver’s animations.
I’ve heard a good point being brought up though. Notice the title: Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. Just when does the actual finished game release, and why should I pay $40 for a game that isn’t complete just to say I’ve played it?
The whole ‘Prologue’ concept could very likely be a bad thing for them in the long run. How many car enthusiasts do they expect to purchase into Gran Turismo 5 more than once? Is Sony trying to sneak in the premise of episodic gaming by releasing GT5 in chunks? It seems so, as this is the second downloadable content for GT5, but it’s also the one you have to pay nearly full price for.
When the game is done, are they going to charge everyone the full $60 for it, or are the early adopters going to get a discount considering they bought an unfinished product? Something tells me that there won’t be any discounts.
Personally, as much as I’d like to play Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, I don’t think i’ll be hopping into the driver’s seat of this one until it’s complete. Even that’s dependent on whether or not it’ll be the regular $60. If the game isn’t complete and going for $40, something tells me it won’t be going for $60 when it’s done.
Anyways, it’s coming out soon, so if you’re looking forward to it have at it
