Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune Review

Naughty Dog wanted an ordinary man and Drake is such a person. He will stumble while running or jumping, flinch when bullets fly by and show fear he is only human you know. Drake is as real as you can get.

I need to make special mention of the soundtrack because Greg Edmonson (Firefly) did an outstanding job. I can’t praise it enough from the time you start the game and finish you’ll love every bit of music that comes your way.

I’m sure you heard this by now but there is a twist in the story that takes everything you know and turns it upside down. Saying anymore would spoil it but trust me you’ll love it.

Depending on your skill level Uncharted will probably take you 9 or more hours to beat. Uncharted has great reply value though with about 60 treasures to find, difficulty levels (crushing is insane) and tons of medals to unlock which gives you access to a lot of game and bonus material. They really packed a lot onto this disc.

Bonus materials include behind the scenes, art and concept galleries, Mo-cap sessions and some hidden content that you need a code to unlock.

Extra stuff for the game include multiple costumes, different render modes (the next-gen filter rocks), weapon select, fast motion, slow motion, super slow motion, etc. One of the best one is the mirror mode which flips the game right to left. You’ll be surprised how much of a difference it makes, its feels almost like a new game.

The bottom line, buy this now if you have a PS3. If you plan on getting a PS3 soon this better be the first game you get. Best graphics to date, stellar gameplay and a great story I could go on and on about how good this game is.

Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune is the PS3’s game of the year and hopefully there is more to come from Drake and the crew. People wanted a game that shows what the PS3 is can do and this is it. Hats off to Naughty Dog for creating an astounding game and I’m sure, the start of a new franchise.
