What I think the people at
When you travel throughout the Netherworld you’re going to need some protection and this is where the Folks come in. Folks are souls of dead that manifest within each realm of the Netherworld. You can use the Folks for offense and defense when you absorb their ids, which are pretty much their souls. To do this, once their ids glow red you press R1 and literally yank the ids from their body, absorbing it into yours and gaining their powers.
The Sixaxis use for Folklore is the best the PS3 has to offer right now. The motion control for yanking the ids is pinpoint accurate. With some you have alternate left and right, steady the controller or shake to absorb their ids. This is on game I can say that Sixaxis use doesn’t feel like a gimmick. It feels natural to yank their ids time and time again.

Once you absorb their ids you can map that Folk to any of the four face buttons and you’re ready to go. You have a lock-on (L1) and evade button (R2) in the arsenal also. With over a 100 Folk you can tell that they have a good variety of Folk to choose from, finding a favorite won’t be hard to find.
To map the Folk to your face button press L2 and it brings up a menu grouping the Folk by realm on default. You can change group the Folks by type such as trap, destroy, slash, fire, etc. Simply rollover the Folk, press the button you want and that’s it.
Leveling up your Folk called releasing Karma is easy but there are different methods. Some you absorb more ids of that Folk, use items or simply kill a certain amount of Folk or a specific Folk. Releasing their Karma might get you an extra charge level, extension to a combo, MC use reduction and so on. The more Folk you absorb your character gains levels too, increasing their HP.
There are instances when one Folk can only be beaten by a certain Folk or element like wind or fire and that’s when your Picture Book comes in handy. The pages are found in each Netherworld realm you go too showing a picture of the Folk and what it is weak against. This is especially useful for the Folklore, the bosses in the game which usually require about three Folk to take down.
One drawback about the game is that Ellen and Keats fight the same bosses except at the last realm. They visit the same realms but it always requires them to use different Folk since they have different fighting styles. Keats is more of a brawler where Ellen has more Folk that can trap and charm other Folks. She also has more Folks that can charge their attacks for more power too. Ellen has variety of different cloaks to acquire which gain her immunity or resistance to attacks. There is one found in each realm.
