Day Two
After meeting all but one of the other site owners in the lobby, we headed to EA Canada. We got there around 9am and had breakfast, followed by a bit of good gaming discussion (You can’t place people who have gaming sites in one room and gaming not be discussed!).
Breakfast and the following discussion was awesome, then we started off the festivities! Similar to last year’s event, key members of the development team came in to talk to us about the major differences and features between the games, except this time we got info on more than just the next-gen consoles!
On Next-Gen consoles, we heard from:
- Kaz Makita - Gameplay Lead Producer
- Benoit Lambert - Associate Gameplay Producer
For PS2 and PC, we heard from:
- Paul Hossack - Line Producer
- Marcel Kuhn - Gameplay Producer
And for the Wii edition, we heard from:
- Tim Tschimer - Group Producer
- Brad Porteous - Lead Producer
- Jamie Toghill - Lead Designer
Each group we talked to was very passionate about the game and all the new features, and we got to play after each team came in and talked with us.
After more game time, it was time for a tournament that spanned multiple consoles! The 1st and 2nd place winners of the Wii Footii Party tournament (of which I came in second place) won buys into the Next-Gen tournament!
I wasn’t skilled enough to win the Next-Gen tournament, but it was a great time nonetheless! Even after the tournament, we had quite a bit more playtime through dinner, and ended up leaving the studio a bit after that.
More fun was had though, due to the group of us meeting up in the lobby and heading out for a night of fun in Vancouver! We made a stop at Red Robin and had a few drinks - I started with a Rookie Magic, which happens to be an Oreo Milkshake, and was publicly berated until I broke down and had a couple real drinks, according to the group. Afterwards, we stopped at Doolin’s Irish Pub, then off to Denny’s to finish off the evening.
It was a great time!
