40GB PS3 announced, 60GB PS3 price cut as well

All the rumors of a 40GB PS3 has come true as Sony Computer Entertainment Europe announced today that the 40GB will drop in Europe October 10 for €399.

The 40GB model comes with a Sixaxis controller, WiFi, two HDMI ports, no memory card slots and a bit surprising no backwards compatibility with the PS2.

The 60GB PS3 has got itself a price cut today. It will now run for €499 in Europe while supplies last.

A cheaper PS3 is always a good thing but no backwards compatibility for the 40GB may be troublesome for a lot of people. If you have a PS2 its no big deal and the 60GB has it if you want but it would be nice to have it in both models.

No word yet if the 40GB or another price drop for the 60GB will happen in the U.S. I don’t think anyone would complain if it does happen here.
