Well, those screens are with the default character, but you can create your character any way you like - male or female.

Ah, you’re the type that needs proof? Well don’t let me keep you from the truth! Keep in mind though, that after the character creation scene, there’s a bit of story elements. I don’t believe them to contain any spoilers, but if you’re trying to stay away from in-game video, you might want to be ready to pause this one during playback.
