New Rockstar Franchise – PS3 Exclusive
Anyone who’s been gaming since the PlayStation 2 knows that for the vast majority of the time, Rockstar games are must-buys. Well, the PlayStation 3 just found another system seller.
That game is from Rockstar. That system seller is a PlayStation 3 exclusive.
While most people would think that this game is LA Noir, a previously confirmed Rockstar title, it most certainly is not. It seems the team over at Rockstar wants to make use of the PlayStation 3’s power and storage to create a brand new franchise.
Michael Shorrock, Director of 3rd Party Relations at SCEA, announced the fact that the franchise is in development, but gave no further details. Here’s a bit of what he had to say:
Rockstar really wanted to make a game that you can truly only do on PS3, harnessing the power of CELL and Blu-ray disc and this deal lets them do just that.. This is really a win-win situation for both companies. As Jack mentioned in the interview with Geoff, this franchise is not LA Noire, but something all new. We agreed with Rockstar and Take-Two Interactive Software that we wouldn’t disclose anything more about the deal or title at this time, so stay tuned, we’ll share more info as soon as we can.
This is massive news from the Sony camp right about now. Not only are Rockstar creating a new franchise, it’s a subtle hint that GTA might have been due to having to port to Xbox 360…
Could this be what Phil Harrison was alluding to when he was asked about GTA IV content not too long ago? I don’t know, but knowing Rockstar, this game won’t disappoint – and I’m highly impatient to hear more about this new franchise.
Here’s a clip of the episode of Game Head where Jack Tretton announced the franchise:
