Quantic Dream to get Sony publishing for exclusive game
Quantic Dream, developers of Fahrenheit (Indigo Prophecy in the US), and Sony have entered a publishing agreement.
The fruits of this agreement? Quantic Dream gets to utilize the Cell processor, and Sony gets a PS3 exclusive game – something they need more of nowadays.
Here’s a quote from the original article:
Quantic Dream are looking forward to utilising the power of the Cell processor in order to create an intense cinematic experience that will be emotionally compelling. The founder of the company, David Cage, stated that they “always believed that “next generation” meant more meaningful content based on players’ emotional involvement. To us, PS3 is the only platform that can truly deliver on this promise.”
Sounds like they really like the PS3, and right about now it’s exactly the kind of news that the PS3 needs. Lately, the newest console to the party has been the whipping boy of the press and gamers alike.
This announcement is a bit surprising though, because it was just released that SCEA President Jack Tretton claimed that “Sony doesn’t buy exclusivity“.
Last time I checked, publishing a title sounds a lot like buying exclusivity…
Any way it goes, this is positive news for the PS3. Considering this could’ve been held off until next week’s E3 event, it gets you wondering what else Sony has in store. Rumble for the SIXAXIS, maybe?
Gamers can only hope.
