Good and Bad about the Xbox 360 Elite
With the announcement last week about the Xbox 360 Elite here comes some good and bad news about the Elite.
Xbox 360 Elite will only support HDMI 1.2 instead of latest 1.3 which ships with the PS3. HDMI 1.3 adds support for Dolby TrueHD, which is a lossless mulit-channel audio (PCM) format. Also when using the HDMI the resolution on the Xbox 360 will be forced to use 1080p, disregarding the resolution on the t.v itself leading to image downscaling and maybe a loss of picture.
The good news though at the moment this is not official, it is being said that Microsoft is working on special trade in for existing Xbox 360 owners looking to get a Elite with Gamestop. This may or may not be true so take it however you want it.
I have to say, Microsoft releasing an outdated HDMI to go with the new Elite is not good. Especially considering that the PS3 shipped with HDMI 1.3, it seems Microsoft got lazy and they are just trying to milk customers for their money. The resolution problem is another thing, it seems they rushed this upgrade version and its starting to show.
