Eidos Holding Back PS3 Titles Until 2008

Are game companies holding back their PS3 titles until the install base grows? Apparently, at least one developer is. Eidos Interactive admits to holding back PS3 titles until more consoles sell.

As part of a statement released alongside the companys interim results for the six months ended December 31 2006, CEO Jane Cavanagh said, “We believe that PlayStation 3 will be a successful platform, and are developing technology and products for this console.
“However, as we do not believe that the installed base will be high enough until the second half of our 2008 financial year, most of our major product releases on the PlayStation 3 platform are not scheduled before that date.”
The worst part about strategies like these are the fact that not many PS3 games are being released at the moment. If there were more PS3 games to choose from, gamers might not be so reluctant to buy it. At the moment, the majority of people I’ve talked to that plan to purchase a PS3 have decided to wait until more games are released, as there are only a couple games they would purchase now.
If developers hold off their PS3 titles and gamers hold off on their PS3 purchase until more titles hit the market, where are PS3 sales going to come from?

Companies should take bigger risk. If you think you have a good game that people are going to buy the install base shouldn’t matter. Like D’Juan said if they keep holding back titles and gamers are holding off buying a PS3 until more games come out. Where are the PS3 sales going to come from.
