Rumble coming back to the PS3

Sony Computer Entertainment and Immersion announced today that both companies have agreed end all the legal mess and enter a business agreement to incorporate Immersion’s force feedback technology into future playstation products.

As part of the agreement reached between the two companies, Immersion will be granted the full amount dictated by the District Court — this includes damages, pre-judgment interest, and legal fees. The agreement also provides Sony with expanded rights with respect to Immersion’s patents.

IGN called this right on the money with their predications for the PS3 in 2007. I’m glad that put this behind them as well since they both can benefit from this agreement. SIXAXIS and rumble were made for each other and hopefully a SIXAXIS rumble controller will not be to far off.

A good question to ask here is whether or not it’s too late to jump in with the rumble…

They’d have to implement rumble into the controllers for the Euro launch later this month to ensure maximum penetration in a very important territory.

Another question left in the cold now is whether or not they’ll be replacing current customers’ controllers with controllers that come equipped with rumble. The millions of current PS3 owners might just be HIGHLY pissed to find out that they have to buy $50 controllers to utilize a function that should’ve been standard from the start…

It’ll be interesting to watch how this plays out.
