Shock & Awe – the first major Halo 3 Tourney
Planning on getting Halo 3 on launch day? Want to make some money “pWning n00bs”, as some would say?
If you answered “yes” to any of those questions, then the 256-team Shock & Awe tournament might be for you. And with upwards of $5,000 up for grabs, it’s definitely worthwhile.
Shock & Awe
Shock & Awe is a 4v4, best of 3 games, 256 team single elimination bracket tournament in Halo 3 that begins on Halo 3 release day and awards over $5,000 in prizes. The tournament is available to anyone who has Xbox Live and who signs up for the tournament at GamesInAction.com and completes the registration. Age restrictions for prize eligibility vary by region. Best bet for ensuring eligibility is to have a team captain that is over 21.
Registration is in two parts. 1) Go to this thread and register. 2) Once Halo 3 comes out, play a preliminary match against another registered team and report the results online at GamesInAction.com. A resource for reporting will be provided upon release of Halo 3. The first 256 teams to report the results of their preliminary matches will gain a spot in the tournament brackets.
The original concept for Shock & Awe was a big money Xbox Live Halo 3 tournament with a check in round that would take place the same day as the game’s release. The big money being awesome and the release day round being shocking. However, the Halo 3 beta has forced us to reconsider whether or not this was still a good idea. Because it basically, means that anyone in the beta will have a big advantage over the rest of the world. We thought about that, and have concluded we’re fine with that.
We’ll keep the name Shock & Awe, just because we like it. Hopefully, it will encourage folks to play the heck out of the beta.
So, in other words, if you play Halo and plan on having it on day one, it could be worth your while to participate.
