Xbox 360
Add More Storage!
This is probably the most rumored thing for the Xbox 360, but it’s also the one a lot of gamers would like to see come to fruition. Since the launch of the Xbox 360, gamers everywhere have been speculating that 20GB (with close to eight reserved for Xbox emulation) wasn’t quite enough space, considering what the 360 is capable of. Only now are we starting to see that there may be a little truth in that. With the launch of HiDef movies and TV shows through Xbox Live, that space could be taken up very quickly.
While some will state that it’s a simple case of deleting shows once you watch them, and doing the same with the movie rentals, it would be nice to have them at your fingertips once you’ve downloaded them. Since TV shows are one-time purchases you can download them again, but downloading isn’t the fastest of things to do. Give us a 60GB hard drive for $120 and drop the price of the current to $60 ($100 is pretty steep for 20GB any way you look at it).
Upgrade the Core
This ties in more with the suggestion above due to the pricing structure and it may upset the vast majority of Core owners, but not having an hard drive in the follow up to a system that pioneered gaming because of the hard drive is paramount to heresy. So, in my opinion, the Core Xbox 360 should be phased out. Not completely, as the Premium 360 should still retain the extras that it already does, but at least give the Core 360 a 20GB HDD.
The updated Premium 360 should include the 60GB HD, 800 MS Points (or 1000 Points if they change the points to equal cents), and a free month of Xbox Live along with what it currently offers.
This is feasible because it makes both the Core and Premium 360 packages worth the investment. The core because it has a hard drive, and the Premium because it adds even more value to the package. Not to mention the value of a $60 HD would entice core owners into picking one up moreso than the $100 20GB does. It would also push MS to raise the limit for XBLA titles from 50MB, allowing for larger and more detailed games.
Keep the Games Coming
Anyone who keeps up with industry news knows that the Xbox 360 is home to a lot of exclusive titles. Games like Mass Effect, Crackdown, Forza 2, Fable 2, Blue Dragon, the inevitable Halo 3, and a host of other titles are almost guaranteed to push big numbers. Since games are what make the system, this is exactly what should keep happening. Grab more exclusives by the handful, because the exclusives are going to be the primary difference between systems this generation.
Since us Xbox 360 gamers know that a lot of previously Sony-Exclusive titles are going to hit the 360 as well, it gives us just a little more hope to know we won’t have to shell out another $500 – $600 to get the next big game. It would also be pretty nice to get Final Fantasy XIII – even though we know the chances are slim to none.
Hey, a guy can hope, can’t he?
