Gears of War Maps Detailed – and Free

Here come the late holiday presents from Epic Games: Raven Down and Old Bones.

They’ll be your new Gears of War maps available for download over XBL soon…

  • Raven Down: A Raven Helicopter has gone down in the middle of a large scale battle with the omnipresent Locust Horde. Gears have taken out the Seeder and gamers join Delta Forces moving into the crash site from all angles to search for survivors.

  • Old Bones: In an attempt to eradicate any traces of human history and culture, the Locust Horde has emerged under Seras Capitaline Museums and has begun to destroy them brick by brick. Each gamers mission is to help the Delta Force recapture the museums before all remnants of humankinds existence are obliterated.

Additionally, the Discovery Channel will be giving away an unprecedented two million Microsoft Points for use on Xbox Live Marketplace. Gamers can visit ReadyAimFuture.com to learn more about how they can qualify to win.

Also, an introductory video hosted by CliffyB will be available for download via Xbox Live Marketplace to coincide with the release of the map packs.

Keep in mind when visiting ReadyAimFuture.com that the site won’t be up until January 13th, and rumor has it that it will only be up for two days. Knowing that, you’ll want to get in and register for the chance to win the 2,000,000 MS Points as early as possible!

Raven Down lacks nuanced structure. It’s as if Epic decided to just make a giant X with a helicopter crash in the middle and litter the map with junk. As a long distance player that focuses on pistol and lancer use, this map is extremely frustrating because most matches boil down to chaotic shotgun blasts and melees in the middle. The lack of any real weaponry and the splitting of team spawns doesn’t improve the maps standing and adds to the general feel of disorientation most players will feel. This map might have worked better if the teams were more distinguishable, but at this rate, most games end up with teammates wildly shooting at anything that moves while trying not to stick to the maps multitude of random cover rubble.
