NPD Claims December Sales Numbers Not Their Own

Merely a day after gaming sites all over the internet jumped on the news about console sales for November and December ’06, NPD has cited that the numbers were not their own.

NPDs David Riley:

“Recent media reports erroneously cited The NPD Group as having provided to CNBC December 06 retail sales for the video game industry. Although the specific CNBC segment included NPDs November 06 console hardware install base sales figures, there were no sales figures or forecasts from NPD for December 2006. NPDs December/Year-End sales data will become available Jan 11.”

Since it’s from the NPD, it seems that the hoopla was for naught. Stay tuned for the actual hardware sales that get released on January 11.
