In an interview with some Epic employees (presumably, Cliffy B was involved), it was let slide that there will be free content for Gears of War…

While talking with the Epic guys they spilled the beans on some new downloadable content for Gears of War. Unfortunately, the didn’t talk details. They just said that Epic is known for supporting their games and that they had started working on something for Gears long before it launched. They did say whatever it is it would be free.

To some, this isn’t much of a surprise. Epic is widely known for supporting their games with loads of free content after release, as anyone who owns Unreal Tournament 2004 can attest to. The thing that is surprising is the fact that, if true, they’re looking away from microtransactions - something that you don’t see very often on Xbox Live Marketplace.

We all know how bad it can be when developers milk microtransactions for every penny they can, but to see one shying away from the concept altogether? That’s what keeps a faithful following. Noone having to worry about whether or not they have enough points for the next map pack or skins. Let’s hope this carries over to themes and gamerpics, because as “The King” proves, gamers love the “Free”.
