Wii Breaks Sales Records in the UK

In a record-breaking launch weekend, Nintendo sees sales of over 100,000 consoles in the UK, breaking the previous record of 70,000 held by the Xbox 360.

It is the first time any console has broken the 100,000 mark over an opening weekend, and with handheld DS shifting around 110,000 in the same week, it tops off a bumper week for platform holder Nintendo.

Well, it’s official – the Wii’s a sellout no matter what region it’s launched in.  It could have a lot to do with it being the cheapest of the new-gen consoles, combined with the ease of use…

All in all, it’s about the games. The Legend of Zelda series alone could command such sales, so it’s no surprise to see.
