Sony: We Will Ship 1Million PS3s This Year

Sony’s intent on delivering more PS3s to the masses, as noted in their response to the NPD figures released recently.

We will continue to utilize airfreight delivery for the PLAYSTATION 3 to assure a steady stream of systems for North American consumers through the end of the year. And while initial day-one launch shipment goals werent achievable due to early manufacturing issues, those problems have been resolved and we do remain focused on having one million PS3s in the pipeline by December 31, 2006.

While it may seem impossible due to the 23 days left in the year, let’s not forget that Sony is a hardware company. If they can deliver over 400,000 PS3s within 20 days, they’ll probably still pump out the near 600k to meet their quota. They might want to get cracking, though, as they’re sure to rush out of stores a little bit faster if they hit stores before Christmas…
