Controls

This message is for those of us who have played the previous Fifa efforts on the Xbox 360 are fairly comfortable with the controls at this point: Prepare for change. The dev team’s focus for this year’s Fifa game was to build a base game that could take Fifa fully into the next-gen arena, and if this build is close to release, I think they’ve accomplished that goal.
The largest, and most noticeable change, is the player switch button which has moved to the LT (Left Trigger). In addition, there are now varying shot types as well. Holding LT while taking a shot will result in a Chip shot, and holding RB while shooting results in a Finesse shot - and holding both will combine the two. Even dribbling has gained a few tricks. If you let go of the thumbstick while running and hold RB (Right Bumper), you can Stop & Turn. The additions and updates to the controls feel right once you take a couple matches get used to them. For those of you that don’t like change? They’ve left the classic configuration just for you!
Physics

In previous Fifa titles, the ball and player were almost inseparable, save a pass or shot, but that’s gone forever. With Fifa 07, the dev team has introduced Ball Physics into the series. That means you’ll see things you’ve never seen in a Fifa game before. In my first half of play with Fifa 07, I saw a ball bounce off a defender’s head and go straight up about 20 feet, only to get caught with a header when it descended. That was wild. Watching the replay was even more fun, as you can change angles, and watch the physics affect the ball’s rotation.
One of the cooler things about having realistic physics in the game is that there’s always something that even the devs don’t expect. Within hours of the demo being released to Xbox Live, gamers had posted videos of different tricks they could complete after getting used to the controls.
