Lost Planet CE: Bonus WHAT?

Lost Planet
Word has it that the Collector’s Edition of Lost Planet will come in a collector’s tin – as the majority of recent CE packages have, but the contents will boggle the mind. Supposedly, each CE package will come with a 24-page art manual, the tin, and a Token Card to download a new multiplayer map on XBLM.

Am I the only one that finds this troubling?

That map download, Capcom hasnt responded to inquiries, seems to indicate that a map will be available on the XBL Marketplace when the game ships and that if you dont have the map token from the colletors edition — you might have to pay for the map separately.

Ugh.

My sentiments exactly. If Xbox Live turns into a market where developers take product from complete games that already cost $60 and put them up for sale later, i’ll soon find myself in a dilemma of epic proportions. Do I stick with a service that costs $50 a year, is awesome for the most part, but charges me small fees per game, or do I just not pay the extra fees and enjoy the games anyways?

That all depends on the developers, in my opinion, but if they don’t start realizing that the best advertisement is free content, we might have a problem.

In a way, I’m impressed to see this from a Japanese company, because that means that they see the potential with the 360. Sorry to say, but if this whole “please love us Japan” motif is indeed going to be followed through, they need Japanese developers.

Capcom definately may have a chance at being XBOX 360’s answer to PS3’s Square-Enix.

Definately, especially with franchises like Resident Evil but what I could see this turning out as is something like Halo where certain downloadable maps are required to play matchmaking. When Bungie required you to download maps to play matchmaking they were already free but what if a developer decided to force you to buy the maps to use that service. It would make your Gold membership moot essentially. They could say well were giving you the ability to play only with people you know but if you want to be connected to the world pay 5 dollars.
