Gameplay
Of course, this is what you’ve been waiting to hear - it’s what brought you this far, right? Superman Returns is an Open-World game, in the same vein as Grand Theft Auto or Saint’s Row, but that’s where the similarities end. I mean, they have to end there, right? Superman doesnt’ walk around the city!, he gets around in style - by flying! And fly he does. At speeds up to 600mph, in fact. I can feel what you’re thinking right now: “What good does it do to fly that fast if you’re in a game a couple miles across?!” Well you can throw that out the window, because Superman Returns is over 80 sq. miles of open area for Supes to peruse. Can’t fathom how large that is? Have a look at the in-game map:

See the tiny gray lines you see on the map? Those are 4-lane highways. Need I say more? With a map that large you have to have a way to get around quickly - and that’s where flying comes in. With a press of your right bumper, you’ll fly in SuperSpeed up to 600mph, and let me tell you - breaking the sound barrier is an experience that can’t be described or looked past. When you fly as Superman, you fly as only Superman can. An amazing achievement is that I saw not a single pop-up building, as it’s all streamed in. To test this out, you can fly into the stratosphere and look down on the entire in-game map. Of course, I abused this by flying up with a truck, chucking it, and following it until it crashes to the ground. There’s something about chucking things from the atmosphere that’ll never get old to me.
